Teachers Profile

Teacher profile Brenda Booth became a Iyengar Yoga Teacher in 1979. she now holds a Senior level 3 certificate since 2004 and is a Mentor for the IYA ukBrenda teaches in East Sussex & Kent  Iyengar yoga is a large part of her life along side  her family. Since 1982 she has attended classes at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute.With a short break while raising her young family.In the early years attending the Institute BKS Iyengar taught the classes. Present day the classes are primary taught by Geeta Iyengar and Prashant Iyengar.Brenda is a very loyal student of BKS Iyengar.Weekly classes range from beginners, general and intermediate. Brenda's long standing teaching experience enable her to teach to each students individual needs.Brenda also runs Various Workshops, Summer schools and Holidays thoughout the yearBrenda 's love of the subject and respect for BKS Iyengar's work is the highest importants. Her wishes are to spread the ethos of BKS Iyengar work to the community. 

What Is Iyengar Yoga

The postures are very precise and you will be guided through them by experienced teachers who are trained to make appropriate adjustments for different physiques and for people with specific problems. The classes can be hard work, as the poses involve intense stretching: however, you will leave the class feeling lighter and calmer. The immediate benefits of Yoga are greater flexibility and strength, and better physical health. As you continue with your practice, psychological and spiritual benefits begin to appear.

The Iyengar Method

The Iyengar method of yoga is named after our teacher Yogacharya Sri B.K.S. Iyengar. The teaching helps you focus on correct alignment of the body in poses ensuring you’re working safely, with maximum benefit to your flexibility, strength and wellbeing.

Classes generally start with simple poses and gradually move towards more advanced poses, ending with a period of relaxation and sometimes incorporating breathing techniques.

Props, such as blocks and belts, are sometimes used in class to allow those with less strength or flexibility to work correctly and achieve their full potential.

 The Iyengar Certification Mark

All teachers of Iyengar yoga are trained to a very high standard and fully insured: this is part of the reason that Iyengar is one of the most widely-performed methods of yoga worldwide. When you see this Mark it means an introductory teacher has completed at least three years of regular Iyengar yoga classes followed by two years teacher training, and has successfully passes a rigorous assessment. Intermediate and Senior teachers have been practising and training for many more years and have passed a series of further assessments. All Iyengar teachers are required to maintain their professional development each year to qualify for continued use of the Mark.

The Iyengar Certification Mark is a guarantee of excellence, clarity and depth of understanding.

Yoga Questions?

What shall I wear?

Anything comfortable, such as a T-shirt and shorts or leggings. It is recommended however that you do Yoga in bare feet.

What about equipment?

IYSWK provides some equipment, although it is encouraged to purchase your own personal equipment within time

Can I have a meal before the class?

You can, but try to give a heavy meal about four hours to digest. Leave an hour for a light snack or drink

Will they all be younger than me?

Yoga is suitable for men and women of all ages, through regular practice both the circulatory and respiratory systems become healthier and the body is better prepared to fight of diseases.

I expect everyone else will be slim except me?

It does not matter what build you are; your muscles can stretch just the same. All shapes and sizes are to be found in yoga classes. The classes are not slimming clubs, but the postures do tone the muscles and help to condition the body generally, so you will feel healthier.

What about my bad back / stiff shoulders / arthritis / weak wrists etc.

All students fill in a confidential questionnaire at enrolment, where you can tell your teacher if there is anything you think he or she should know. All the poses can be modified for medical conditions and may help relieve them. If you are seeing a doctor regularly for a medical condition, ask his/her advice first.

Yoga holiday with Brenda Booth

Brenda Booth is hosting and teaching a yoga holiday in a fourteenth century renovated farmhouse from 12-19 September 2025. Set in beautiful gardens, with a fully equipped indoor yoga studio with rope wall. There is an outside yoga platform too; two swimming pools, a spa, and gorgeous accommodation.

Brenda is a level 3 teacher with many years of experience.

 I started a beginner’s yoga class with Brenda in September last year.  I have attended many yoga classes over the years, but Brenda’s class is different to any class I have done before.  Brenda is proactive throughout the class, correcting postures and ensuring that the yoga poses that are being done in the class are correct with both the physical pose and the breath.  Brenda explains the postures and the benefits of doing them in detail.  In fact, I have realised that in my past experiences of yoga, I have been doing the poses incorrectly.  Brenda is very knowledgable and able to give advice and guidance for discomfort and injuries in the bodies, adjusting the poses accordingly.

I have noticed benefits of the classes, such as my posture improving and find myself incorporating what we have learnt in the class into my daily life, such as sitting at my desk and eating dinner, adjusting my posture to help backache and improving digestion when eating.  I am also much more aware when I tense my shoulders and jaw and am able to correct myself and release tension.
